How to drive on snow: ten tips

There are only a few days until winter and snow will cover his once again, and just like every year, the authorities will be taken by surprise.  Lest you go and you in the same pot with the organs of the State, here are some tips that can help you when you leave the road in winter.

After countless news about "meteorologists ads" on the weather in the winter, the first signs of cold weather have already made its appearance on the roads.  And, just like every time, found themselves and several drivers who went to the road unprepared.

To much talking, a measurement length thing's for sure: If winter comes, that means a let it snow.  It's simple.  And, because driving on snow-covered roads is not the same as driving on dry roads, we have prepared a set of tips that can help you when you prepare to go on a trip on the white roads of the country.

1.  Mandatory winter tires

Even though some drivers do not agree, the law now says that it is compulsory the use of winter tires when weather conditions worsen.  More specifically, if it's snowing and/or roads are covered with snow, the car you drive has to be equipped with winter tires on all wheels, not just on wheels that provides traction.

Don't steal the CAP single.  Without winter tires, your car will become the sled

If you don't do that, risk to be fined by the police.  But the risk of receiving a fine does not compare with the risk of making an accident.  Winter tires are made of rubber and softer than summer tires and offers a better grip when the thermometer drops below 7 degrees Celsius, and the roads are covered with ice or snow.  If you have not yet winter tires for your car, you can guide them after the top ten best winter tire for 2014.

2.  A general check of the machine never breaks down not

Before the first snowflakes to sit on roads in the area where you live, it's recommended that you make a general checklist for your car.  The service (or yourself, if you get good enough well) will check the condition of the suspension system, braking system, engine cooling system, after which they will give you a list of issues that your car has.

In winter, it is very important that the brakes work very well, and in the cooling system to be a liquid suitable for low temperatures, which does not freeze.  Of course, other problems-which may seem minor to be remedied before-to come chill.

Sure, all these costs, but nothing is worth more than your life.  If the machine you run it has too many problems, and you can't afford to fix it, you better choose the means of transport.  It's safer for everyone so.

3.  Check the pressure of the wheels

It is very important that the tires are inflated to the correct pressure, regardless of the season, thus reducing the risk of loss of stickiness, and fuel consumption remains at normal rates.  You can do this verification at any vulcanization.

4.  Don't forget the scraper, shovel, sand, gloves and chains

In winter, it's very good to have in the trunk a set of gloves, a flashlight, a small shovel, a bag with sand and a set of chains, in addition to the ubiquitous squeegee.  No matter how prepared you are, you never know when you can stay stuck on the road because of a powerful snowstorm.

Also, if you used to get out on the road without having a full tank of fuel, it would be good to keep in the trunk a small canister filled with fuel.  If you get stuck, you have to have petrol and diesel in the tank so you can get the heat from the engine.

5.  Do not go on the road without having to clean your snow machine

How many times have you seen cars circulating in the winter with snow-covered glasses because the driver did not have the time or mood to completely cleanse your car? Too often, surely.

Don't be lazy! Give the snow off of the whole machine.  Otherwise you are callous.  Point.

Our recommendation: do not be one of those drivers.  Departing ten minutes earlier and completely clears the snow machine, without having to block the other parked cars.  Thus, you have the best visibility and the other drivers on the road you don't have to hang out with fear in the breast that at any moment a piece of snow on your car could get their windscreen.

6.  Reduce speed

When the roads are covered with snow, must necessarily run slower than if you drive on a dry summer.  No matter how good it would be winter tires you have and however sophisticated electronic systems would be of assistance, it is clear that at a lower speed is more easily recovered if you lose control of the steering wheel car.

7.  Keep your distance

Trying to keep a greater distance than usual between your car and the car in front of you.  Because braking is made harder on snow-covered roads, it's good to have a bigger buffer than when driving on dry roads.

8.  Gently with acceleration and brake

In low grip conditions (snow or ice), you need to be more careful with the throttle and brake pedals.  If suddenly accelerezi on snow, driving front wheels lose grip, and you might lose control.  The same with sudden braking-if you press the brake pedal, you can lock the wheels, and that means that you turn into a sled on wheels.

Naturally, those said above applies in particular to the machines that are not equipped with ABS and electronic traction control.  In the case of vehicles equipped with such systems, the risks decrease, but also how to lead must be modified slightly.

More specifically, in the case of cars with ABS, the brake pedal needs to be broken down, and the driver doesn't need to raise his foot when the pedal starts to vibrate.

Also, if you're stuck in drifts, and traction control systems do not help in any way, you can disable them in order to be able to get the full power of the machine.  Once you manage to get out of the mess, do not forget to reactivate you disabled.  If you don't know how to turn the most simple solution is to stop and restart the engine-so, the machine goes on the road with all systems activated.

9.  Use the engine brake

To help the car to slow down, you must use the engine brake.  I.e. retrogradezi from a higher gear to a lower gear.  You can do this with all cars equipped with manual gearbox, but also with the majority of machines with automatic boxes in manual mode.

10.  Notice the curves

In the case of cars with traction on the deck, usually there is what is called a subvirator.  In other words, if you go too high speed in a curve, the car will go forward, although you have wired the.  Well, in the winter, this subvirator character is emphasized due to lower adherence.

The solution to this problem is to slow down gently before entering a curve and not accelerezi suddenly during the turn.  If you notice that the car take it all before, instead of going after the direction of the wheel, trying to out the angle of the steering wheel-so, the front wheels will catch up, and the machine will return to trace the ideal

Do not try this on your driveway.  Make the rub.  On a frozen lake, if you keep. . .

in the case of cars with rear-wheel drive supravirator character appears.  More precisely, if accelerezi suddenly when the front wheels are wired, the back of the car will lose traction and will go to the left or right.

And the front-wheel drive cars may "run" back in a curve, especially when run from the Valley and frânezi.  The basic rule, in this case, it is always in the direction one turns to derapajului-if you take it back to the left, one turns to the left.

Again, many of the electronic safety systems will help in these situations, however, the best approach is cautious.

What advice do you have for you driving on the snow?
