Audi confirm a new model-Q1!

Audi has put an end to speculation about his plans for an SUV smaller than Q3.  The Ingolstadt manufacturer has officially confirmed today its intentions to give rise to a model named Q1, scheduled to go into production in early 2016..

The Assembly will occupy the same factory in Ingosltadt, where they take the birth families currently models A4, A5 and A3.  The decision is intended to secure jobs at the parent plant, and to ensure that it will become the technological peak of the german constructor.




The confirmation comes from Rupert Stadler, Audi's Executive President, who argues that "the new Q1 is part of the strategy to expand the range of vehicles 4 × 4.  It is developed on the principle of transverse-engined models and will provide entry-level threshold in the Audi range Q.

With this announcement, Audi revealed the first teaser and a model of the future, an outline that intuits driving the general lines of the small SUV.  Official details are not known, but, judging by the fact that we are talking about a small SUV, the length should not exceed 4 meters.

Development will be done on the same platform as the Volkswagen Group MQB modular, and the range of engines will be provided by several diesel and petrol powertrains currently retrieved the little A1.  A first concept version of the series is expected to make their appearance in a saloon car next year.

Audi is relying on its SUVs offensive from Q to catch up with market leader BMW premium.  By this time, the recipe seems to pay off, the Q5 is the leader of the segment this year, with 194. 430 units sold by October.  That means 17% more units than last year. 

By the end of 2013, the Audi Q5 's production hopes to climb up to 230. 000 copies, i.e. less than half of all sales of the range Q.  Q range that will succeed to total 28% of Audi's total sales this year.  This percentage is expected to increase to 35% by 2020, the year in which Audi estimates annual sales of two million units.
